Steve has worked in the language services industry since 1987, having started out as a freelance translator and project manager, and subsequently holding senior management positions with agencies in the US, Ireland and Spain. From 1998 to 2011, he served as chairman of the ASTM International subcommittee that developed and published ASTM F2575 Standard Guide for Quality Assurance in Translation, the first standard of its kind in the United States. Steve earned an MA in Translation and Interpretation for Spanish from the Monterey Institute of International Studies and serves as Vice President of Translation Services at Cesco Linguistic Services, working from Washington, DC.
While he has spent most of his career on the agency side, Steve still considers himself a translator at heart and has worked diligently to advocate for freelance translators inside the organizations he has worked for. Steve feels that the agency-freelancer relationship is absolutely essential to our industry and can be a win-win if both sides can just learn to trust each other and acknowledge that each party needs the other.
